Transmission Lines in Northern Luzon Restored Amid Tropical Storm Emong

Manila: Three transmission lines in northern Luzon have been restored to normal operations, as reported by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) on Friday night. The affected lines include the Labrador-Bolinao 69kV Line, serving the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO) and the Pangasinan 1 Electric Cooperative (PANELCO 1); alongside the Bauang-San Fabian 69kV Line and Bauang-Naguilian 69kV Line, which supply the La Union Electric Cooperative (LUELCO).

According to Philippines News Agency, other lines such as the Bauang-San Fernando 115kV Line and the Bacnotan-Bulala 69kV Line remain out of service. These lines also cater to LUELCO, and restoration efforts are ongoing. The NGCP has dispatched line crews to inspect and assess the damage caused by the tropical storm, with simultaneous restoration activities focused on accessible areas.

The NGCP emphasized that power outages may result from issues with either NGCP's transmission facilities or the distribution facilities of local utilities or cooperatives. The specific areas affected by these outages are determined by the concerned distribution utilities unless an outage impacts the entire franchise area.

Tropical Storm Emong continues to affect parts of Northern Luzon, as reported by the weather bureau in its 5 p.m. bulletin. The storm's center was last located over the coastal waters of Sabtang, Batanes, moving north-northwestward with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gusts reaching up to 115 kph.
