Trooper Killed in Armed Clash with NPA in Negros Occidental Hailed for Heroism

Manila: The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) has paid tribute to the heroism and "ultimate sacrifice" of Private First Class John Rey Brasil. A former member of the Army's 79th Infantry Battalion, Brasil was killed during an armed confrontation with remnants of the New People's Army (NPA) in Negros Occidental on June 1, in Barangay Tamlang, Escalante City.

According to Philippines News Agency, the NTF-ELCAC highlighted Brasil's exemplary military service, citing his selflessness, bravery, and unwavering commitment to duty as he confronted the remnants of the North Negros Front. The agency conveyed that Brasil's dedication to peace and devotion to the Filipino people would remain in their memories. They expressed condolences to his family, loved ones, friends, and fellow soldiers.

The agency further acknowledged Brasil as a steadfast defender of peace who placed himself between vulnerable communities and forces of fear, violence, and instability. His sacrifice, they noted, was made in pursuit of a peaceful Negros Occidental, aiming for a future free from the shadow of armed conflict.

Beyond his military service, Brasil was an advocate of the Youth for Peace Movement - Northern Negros Chapter. He was dedicated to inspiring young Filipinos to embrace patriotism, responsible citizenship, and community involvement. Through his words and actions, Brasil played a significant role in shaping young minds and encouraging them to become partners in nation-building, as noted by the NTF-ELCAC.
