Tropical Depression Neneng Accelerates, Set to Weaken into Remnant Low by Thursday

Manila: Tropical Depression Neneng accelerated, moving west northwest at 30 km per hour, the weather bureau stated on Thursday. It was located 390 km north of Itbayat, Batanes as of 4 a.m. The cyclone has maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour near the center, with gustiness reaching up to 55 km per hour.

According to Philippines News Agency, no wind signal is currently hoisted on any part of the country, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). However, various regions including most of Luzon and Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Davao Region are expected to experience strong to gale-force gusts due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.

Rough sea conditions could prevail over the seaboards of Batanes, the northern and western seaboards of Babuyan Islands, and the seaboards of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Zambales, Pangasinan, and the northern seaboard of Kalayaan Islands. Mariners operating motorbancas and similarly sized vessels have been advised by PAGASA to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea.

Meanwhile, PAGASA has forecast that Neneng will weaken into a remnant low in the next 12 hours, indicating a potential reduction in its impact on the country.
