Tropical Storm Crising Approaches Northern Cagayan, Disrupts Flights Across the Philippines

Manila: Stormy weather conditions are set to impact Northern Luzon on Friday night as Tropical Storm Crising nears Northern Cagayan, with additional rainfall expected throughout parts of Luzon and the Visayas due to the southwest monsoon, according to the weather bureau.

According to Philippines News Agency, Crising is generating maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near its center and gusts reaching up to 105 kph. By 4 p.m., the storm's center was positioned east of Aparri, Cagayan. Regions including Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Ilocos Sur will face stormy weather. The cyclone's influence will also extend to Aurora, the remainder of the Ilocos Region, the entire Cordillera Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley, bringing rains accompanied by gusty winds.

The southwest monsoon is predicted to cause monsoon rains in areas such as Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Western Visayas, and the Negros Island Region, with occasional rains expected over the rest of Luzon, Central Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned residents of potential flooding and landslides in these areas.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 remains in effect over Batanes, Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, parts of Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, and sections of Ilocos Sur. These regions will experience gale-force winds. Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 is in place for Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, other parts of Mountain Province and Ifugao, the remainder of Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, sections of Pangasinan, Aurora, and Nueva Ecija, where strong winds will persist.

Strong to gale-force gusts due to the southwest monsoon will also impact Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, the Bicol Region, Mimaropa, the Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, and Sarangani. PAGASA has indicated that Crising might make landfall over the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan or the Babuyan Islands on Friday night.

Furthermore, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has reported significant disruptions in air travel due to the cyclone, with 69 domestic flights canceled and at least three flights diverted back to their original departure points.
