Pangasinan: All 19 municipalities and one component city of La Union and 47 out of 48 local governments of Pangasinan suspended classes on Friday due to inclement weather caused by Tropical Storm Crising. La Union and the northern portion of Pangasinan are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as of 8 a.m.
According to Philippines News Agency, La Union is under red alert while Pangasinan is under blue alert, as reported by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) 1 (Ilocos Region). OCD-1 information officer Adrian Pagsolingan explained that the alert status is determined by the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council, based on their assessment of the current situation and available data.
Red alert indicates heightened monitoring and coordination, with standby assets likely to be deployed, while blue alert suggests the situation is manageable with resources on standby. Both provinces conducted a pre-disaster risk assessment meeting on Thursday to discuss disaster preparedness.
La Union Governor Mario Eduardo Ortega assured residents that the province is prepared for the storm's potential effects. He directed local governments to implement necessary preparedness measures, activate Incident Command Centers, and prepare for possible evacuations. Ortega advised residents to pack necessities and have enough food for three days in case of isolation.
La Union's Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has all rescue vehicles and assets ready for mobilization, including various vehicles and equipment. Four teams are prepared for deployment, and 819 evacuation centers are equipped to accommodate affected residents.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development has prepared 86,874 family food packs and 15,463 non-food items in 21 regional warehouses for families impacted by Crising. The weather bureau reports that Crising maintains its strength as it approaches mainland Cagayan-Babuyan Islands, with its center approximately 250 km east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
