Tropical Storm Kalmaegi to Enter Philippine Area of Responsibility Sunday Morning

Manila: A tropical storm with the international name Kalmaegi is anticipated to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). According to Philippines News Agency, as of 3 a.m., Tropical Storm Kalmaegi was situated 1,230 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, boasting maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near its center and gustiness reaching up to 105 kilometers per hour. The storm is progressing west northwestward at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. Once it enters PAR, it will be locally named Tino, as stated by PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina. Badrina further mentioned that the tropical storm is projected to make landfall over Eastern Visayas or Caraga by Tuesday morning. Based on the current intensity forecast, the highest wind signal expected is Wind Signal No. 4, which is categorized under a typhoon. Wind Signal No. 1 is anticipated to be raised over Eastern Visayas and Caraga today. In PAGASA's 4 a.m. bulletin, it was noted that the trough of the tropical storm is expected to result in cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms over Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Dinagat Islands. Additionally, a low-pressure area located 165 kilometers north northwest is under observation outside the PAR, though it is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. The Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, and the remainder of Cagayan Valley will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the shear line. The Ilocos Region and Batanes will continue to have cloudy skies with rains owing to the northeast monsoon, locally known as 'amihan.' Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will encounter partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms as a result of localized thunderstorms. Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon sh ould prepare for moderate to strong northeast winds accompanied by moderate to rough seas.
