Manila: The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) will cause rains over most parts of the country, the weather bureau said Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the LPA, positioned 1,470 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of 2 a.m. and has a medium chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.

However, the trough is anticipated to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to the Visayas, Mindanao, Sorsogon, and Masbate. Moderate to heavy rains could potentially lead to flash floods or landslides in these areas.

The northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan", is currently affecting Luzon, resulting in rains over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of the Bicol Region. Additionally, light rains are expected over Cordillera Administrative Region, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon. PAGASA also noted that "amihan" will bring isolated light rains to Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Forecasts indicate strong winds and rough coastal waters in the eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas. Northern Luzon and the eastern section of central Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas. Elsewhere in the country, winds are expected to be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA added.
