Tuguegarao Exec Urges Preemptive Evac in Flood-Prone Villages.

TUGUEGARAO CITY: Local government units (LGUs) in this city are now conducting preemptive evacuations along the main Cagayan River area, including in tributaries such as Magat, Pinacanauan de Ilagan, and Siffu Mallig, which are expected to rise gradually on Monday evening. While monitoring the fast rising river levels, Tuguegarao City Mayor Maila Ting Que has cautioned all residents to stay vigilant and prepare to evacuate if needed. According to Philippines News Agency, the mayor has urged residents, particularly those who are outside their residences, to return home for safety. In a Facebook live post, Mayor Que showcased the operations at the Tuguegarao City Command Center, which provides real-time updates of the river levels via CCTV. These updates are refreshed every 30 minutes. To support the affected villages, the People's Gymnasium is being used as a center for food repacking and distribution. Approximately 5,000 packs containing rice, noodles, canned goods, biscuits, and coffee are being prepared f or distribution. Mayor Que also reminded residents to adhere to a liquor ban to ensure public safety amid Typhoon Nika, known internationally as Toraji. Rescue teams are on standby to respond to any emergencies. As of 7:30 p.m. Monday, the Cagayan River at Buntun Bridge in Solana town has risen to 7.2 meters, surpassing the 4 meters alert level and approaching the 8 meters warning level. The river level has been increasing at an average rate of 0.5 meters per hour over the last four hours. Additionally, the Magat Dam has opened one spill gate, contributing to the rising water levels in the Cagayan River.
