Two Weather Systems to Bring Rains Over Most of the Philippines

Manila: Two weather systems are expected to bring rain to most parts of the Philippines on Tuesday, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is influencing the weather in Mindanao and Palawan, leading to scattered rains and thunderstorms in Palawan, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and Western Visayas. Similar weather conditions are anticipated in Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the frontal system. PAGASA's 4 a.m. bulletin also highlighted potential flash floods or landslides in these regions.

The ITCZ will also result in isolated rain showers or thunderstorms across the rest of Mindanao. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of the country will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Moderate winds and seas are expected in extreme northern Luzon, while other areas can anticipate light to moderate winds with slight to moderate coastal waters.

PAGASA noted that as of 2 a.m., there is no low-pressure area being monitored for potential tropical cyclone development. Additionally, the heat index is projected to reach 45°C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and 44°C in Aparri, Cagayan; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; and Sangley Point, Cavite City. Several other regions, including Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, may see heat indices of up to 43°C.

A heat index of 42°C is forecasted for areas such as NAIA, Bacnotan, La Union, and Baler (Radar), Aurora. The heat index measures the perceived temperature felt by the human body when combining air temperature and relative humidity. Under "danger" level conditions, ranging from 42°C to 51°C, there are increased risks of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke with prolonged exposure.
