US, Philippines Unveil 80th Anniversary Logo to Celebrate Longstanding Partnership

Pasay city: The Philippines and the United States marked the beginning of the year-long celebration of their eight-decade-old relations with the launch of their 80th anniversary logo on Thursday. The logo, officially introduced at the iconic SM Mall of Asia Globe in Pasay City, features the flag elements of both countries, including the Philippine eight-rayed sun and the American stars and stripes.

According to Philippines News Agency, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez emphasized that the logo is more than just a design; it represents a story of shared struggles, values, and aspirations over the past eighty years. Romualdez highlighted the evolution of the partnership from post-war reconstruction to a modern strategic alliance focused on economic development and people-to-people exchanges.

Romualdez further noted that the relationship between the two nations has been dynamic, growing and deepening over the years. He emphasized that the partnership is not just based on treaties and institutions but also on the strong bonds between the people of both countries. He described the US-Philippine relationship as akin to a family bond, suggesting that the logo symbolizes a robust present partnership with a promising future.

US Embassy Charg© d'Affaires Robert Ewing echoed Romualdez's sentiments, expressing pride in the achievements of both nations, from times of conflict to economic growth and collaboration in health, education, and disaster response. Ewing described the relationship as being on "hyperdrive," with sustained engagement at all levels, and expressed confidence in the continued prosperity and strength of the alliance for generations to come.

Formal relations between the Philippines and the US were established on July 4, 1946, with the date also celebrated as Philippine-American Friendship Day.
