Manila: University of Santo Tomas defeated College of Saint Benilde, 25-22, 25-15, 15-25, 25-12, Monday for its second straight win in the 2026 Shakey's Collegiate National Invitationals at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The Shaq Delos Santos-mentored Golden Tigresses banked on veterans Angge Poyos, Marga Altea, and Avril Bron in the fourth set to claim victory after one hour and 45 minutes.
According to Philippines News Agency, Poyos finished with 15 points, 14 on attacks while adding seven digs and four excellent receptions. Altea scored seven of her 10 points in the fourth while Bron added 10 points. "It feels overwhelming because I just did my best to bounce back, especially after the first set where I was a bit off. I simply gave it my all when I was sent back in during the fourth set," said Altea, who took over the offense in the fourth set.
UST, which swept Enderun Colleges in the opener, battles Letran College on Tuesday. Mary Grace Borromeo led the Lady Blazers with 12 points on 10 attacks and two blocks. Mhonniecka Joyce Soliven chipped in 12 points, followed by Camila Bartolome with eight points. CSB, sporting a 1-1 card, faces Enderun on Tuesday.
