Capas: University of Santo Tomas standout Franceine Jhobie Rosario dominated the girls' 100m dash in record-breaking fashion Thursday night in the UAAP Season 88 athletics competition at the New Clark City Sports Hub in Capas, Tarlac. She clocked 11.97 seconds to surpass the 12.28-second record set by University of the East's Jeralyn Rodriguez last season. According to Philippines News Agency, Adamson's Juvelle Matnog secured the silver medal with a time of 12.25 seconds, while UST's Lhynette Libranda completed the podium with the bronze, clocking 12.48 seconds. UST's success continued in the girls' 800m event, where Liana Ascan took top honors with a time of 2:19.34. Erika Joy Dorado of Adamson University finished second in 2:26.61, and UST's Shaina Igcas followed in third at 2:30.84. In another thrilling event, UE's Sep Blesse Placido clinched the gold in the girls' 2000m racewalk, improving her previous season's time with a finish of 10:03.19. Her teammate Meljane Dano took the silver, while Adamson's Ir alea Dumaguin earned the bronze. Meanwhile, Adamson University ended UE's two-year dominance in the shot put, with Niorwyne Edrada claiming victory at 10.43 meters. UE's Alyannah Ico and UST's Yih Fernandez finished in second and third, respectively. The standings saw UST leading with 87 points, followed by defending champion UE with 73 points and Adamson closely trailing with 72 points. In the boys' division, defending champion UST led the pack with 112 points, with Adamson and National University Nazareth School (NUNS) in second and third place, respectively. A notable achievement in the boys' events was UST's Jayvee Ceballos, who set a new record in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.22 meters, surpassing the previous record set by Ateneo's Matt Crespo in 2012. In the triple jump, NUNS's Efosa John Paul Aguinaldo captured the gold medal, setting a new record of 14.78 meters. Adamson's Kent Ebron excelled in the pole vault, clearing 4.15 meters to set a new record. In the 5000m racewalk, Adamson's A bdul Saud set another meet record with a time of 23:55.35. Additionally, De La Salle Zobel's Pi Durden Wangkay, fresh off a gold medal win at the Asian Youth Games, managed to win the 100m dash in 10.88 seconds, with UST's Prince Cuyos closely following, also clocking 10.88 seconds.
