Valenzuela city: All nine pumping stations in Valenzuela City are expected to be operational next month, seen to help mitigate flooding during the rainy season, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, during the inspection of the Wawang Pulo pumping station and flood gate in Valenzuela City, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon mentioned that two more pumps are set to discharge an additional 5,000 liters of water per second. "All nine will be done by the end of the month. after all these were done, the water flow is stronger," Dizon stated. "So that means it's really working. We just have to replicate it."
Secretary Dizon also noted that President R. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the completion of the installation of two additional pumps this May. This initiative aims to accelerate the flow of floodwater from small pumping stations in Metro Manila, thereby helping to alleviate severe flooding in flood-prone areas.
With the additional new pumps, the capacity is set to increase to 20,000 liters per second from the previous 14,000 liters per second. The floodwater will be discharged from the Polo River in Valenzuela City into the Meycauayan River in Bulacan.
The project was completed three months earlier than its original target completion in August.
