Iloilo city: Heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression Verbena caused flooding in 32 of 180 barangays in this city, according to the situation report released by the emergency operations center at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The affected barangays reported flooding ranging from five to 26 inches in height.

According to Philippines News Agency, flooding was reported in seven barangays each in Molo and Mandurriao districts, five each in Lapuz and La Paz districts, four in the city proper, and two each in Arevalo and Jaro districts. ‘As of 12 noon, one barangay with 18 families or 69 individuals took shelter in the evacuation center of the city,’ the report said. Affected families from Barangay Calubihan in Jaro are staying at the village chapel until the water recedes.

City Social Welfare and Development Office chief Teresa Gelogo stated that the number of evacuees due to flooding is minimal compared to the impact of previous weather disturbances. ‘We have already prepositioned our goods in evacuation centers,’ she added.

Meanwhile, in Iloilo province, the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office reported four flooding incidents, two landslides, and one river overflow as of 12 noon. Additionally, 12 families, totaling 29 people from the municipalities of Lambunao and Janiuay, were evacuated proactively and are now staying in evacuation centers.
