Manila: Local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas are encouraged to enact ordinances promoting safer cities and intensify the enforcement of ordinances on common issues directly affecting daily life. Department of the Interior and Local Government in Western Visayas (DILG-6) Regional Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero said the call to action covers provinces, municipalities and down to the barangays.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ingeniero emphasized the collective responsibility in ensuring public safety, urging that local governments are at the forefront of fostering peaceful, disciplined, and secure communities. He highlighted the importance of ordinances addressing public drinking, excessive noise, curfews for minors, and public indecency, noting that neglecting these issues can negatively impact community safety and quality of life.
Ingeniero stated that DILG-6 is continuously monitoring compliance and supporting LGUs in drafting and implementing ordinances. He reported that 58 LGUs have ordinances related to public drinking bans, 14 for public decency, 70 on noise regulation, and 76 for curfews on minors. Ingeniero also mentioned receiving 18 reports concerning the Anti-Epal policy, which aims to prevent credit-grabbing by ensuring credit for government projects remains with the institution, not individuals. He noted that most LGUs in Western Visayas are adhering to this policy.
