Bacolod city: Mark Jaydan Tasoy of Western Visayas delivered the first gold medal in the National PRISAA (Private Schools Athletic Association) Games Sunday at Panaad Park and Sports Complex here. The 19-year-old native of Nabas, Aklan clocked 11 minutes and 12.10 seconds to beat Jhonn Marc Dizon of Central Visayas (11:24.00) and John Mark Sustento of Negros Island Region (11:33.10) in the men's 3000m steeplechase.

According to Philippines News Agency, Tasoy, a freshman Criminology student at Filamer Christian University in Roxas City, Capiz, expressed both surprise and pride in his victory. "I did not expect to win because I only got the silver medal in the regional meet," he said. Tasoy noted this was his first gold medal in a national tournament and acknowledged the rigorous training leading to his win.

Tasoy previously earned gold medals in the 5000m (15:58) and 1500m (14:04) at the regional meet at Binirayan Sports Complex in San Jose, Antique last month, which qualified him for the National PRISAA. "I want to dedicate this medal to my family, especially my mom because today is Mother's Day. I also want to thank my coach, Josue Campos," Tasoy added, as he prepares to compete in the 5000m and 1500m.

In the youth division, Jersy Lee De Vera of Central Luzon dominated the boys' 3000m steeplechase event in 9:37.1. Jay Joben Rana of Bicol Region (10:01.4) was second, with Ken Ryzen Herrera (10:05.8) following in third.

In men's long jump, Rustom Gumarang of Cagayan Valley (7.04m) clinched the gold medal over Jan Aris Manilay of Western Visayas (6.63m) and Kent Brian Celeste of Ilocos Region (6.60m). The boys' long jump gold medal was claimed by Negros Island Region's Ace Francis Bacongallo (6.4m), while Khian Angelbert Corcellis of Davao Region (6.29m) and Rhian Igga of Central Luzon (6.25m) took silver and bronze, respectively.
