ROME: Italy's tennis world number one Jannik Sinner said Wednesday that he would not play in the Paris Olympics because of tonsillitis. "I am saddened to inform you that unfortunately, I will not be able to participate in the Paris Olympic Games," the 22-year-old Australian Open champion said on X. "After a good week of training on clay, I started to feel unwell," he informed his followers. "I spent a couple of days resting and during an examination, the doctor diagnosed tonsillitis and strongly advised me against playing," he added. Sinner said he was disappointed by the recent development since playing in the Olympics 'was one of my goals for this season.' "I couldn't wait to have the honor of representing my country at this very important event," he said. "Good luck to all the Italian athletes who I will support from home. Forza Italia,' he added.
