Manila: The 14 police officers implicated in the disappearance of 34 cockfight enthusiasts have successfully blocked their transfer to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), according to an official statement on Tuesday. The officers continue to be held at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center.

According to Philippines News Agency, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group - National Capital Region chief Col. John Guiagui confirmed that the officers' stay is temporary, pending a court decision. Guiagui explained, "Yes, nasa Custodial [Center] pa kasi may motion sila na mag-stay dito, so it's up to the court na mag-decide kung ita-transfer sila," indicating that their continued detention at the PNP facility is subject to judicial approval.

Guiagui also mentioned that the existing PNP custodial facility is slated for demolition to facilitate the construction of a new office building, as previously announced by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

The group of 14 officers, along with seven civilians, is accused of involvement with fugitive businessman Charlie 'Atong' Ang in the alleged kidnapping and killing of the cockfight enthusiasts, who were accused of cheating in events held from 2021 to 2022. While Ang remains at large, the other suspects have been apprehended following warrants issued by courts in Santa Cruz and San Pablo in Laguna, as well as Lipa City in Batangas.
