18 Local Government Units in Pangasinan Declare State of Calamity Due to Weather Disturbances

Pangasinan: Fifteen municipalities and three cities out of the 48 local government units in Pangasinan have declared a state of calamity as of July 26 due to the adverse effects of weather disturbances in the past week.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that the towns of Umingan, Malasiqui, Calasiao, Mangatarem, Mangaldan, Sta. Barbara, Lingayen, Binmaley, Anda, Basista, Bayambang, Aguilar, Dasol, Bani, Mabini, Dagupan, San Carlos, and Alaminos cities are under a state of calamity. A series of weather disturbances, including tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, Emong, and the southwest monsoon, has resulted in approximately PHP348.8 million and PHP3.6 million worth of damage to agriculture and livestock in the province, respectively.

The report indicates that of the total damage, PHP108.3 million affected palay, PHP50 million impacted corn, PHP127.9 million was attributed to fisheries, and PHP58.5 million affected high-value crops. Additionally, infrastructure damage was initially recorded at PHP419 million, primarily due to potholes, dilapidated concrete with asphalt, dilapidated slope protection, and damage to concrete pavement.

A total of 572 houses were destroyed, and 3,925 were damaged throughout the province. The report states that 41 municipalities and four cities, comprising 872 barangays and affecting 365,722 families or 1.3 million individuals, are impacted.

Power interruptions continue to affect the localities of Burgos, Agno, Dasol, Infanta, Sual, Bugallon, Bani, and Alaminos City. Additionally, some barangays in Calasiao are experiencing low water pressure, Barangay Polo in Alaminos City has no water supply, while Bani and Agno are experiencing no communication signal.

A 15-year-old man was injured by a fallen tree in Dasol town on July 19. In response to the crisis, the provincial government of Pangasinan has distributed 10,800 food packs to affected residents, with distribution efforts still ongoing. Vice Governor Mark Ronald Lambino stated that the declaration of a state of calamity remains localized, depending on the situation of the localities.
