Bacolod: Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) will energize two more substations here in the coming months to meet the increasing power demand and future growth of this highly urbanized city and its neighboring localities.
According to Philippines News Agency, the energization of the 37.5 megavolt-ampere (MVA) Capitol Substation on San Juan Street and the 37.5 MVA Megaworld Substation within The Upper East township will be supported by the ongoing upgrading and strengthening of the 69-kilovolt (kV) Bata-Silay Line. The project is a major step toward the delivery of a more stable and reliable power supply across Negros Power's franchise area, including the cities of Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, and Bago as well as the municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto.
As of Wednesday, the relocation and upgrading of the Bata-Silay 69kV line is already 70 percent completed. "The two new substations will be energized this year and early this year," Negros Power vice president and chief operating officer Joe-Mel Zaporteza said in a press briefing.
After the rehabilitation project is completed, the capacity of the Bata-Silay 69kV will increase from 126 megavolt-ampere (MVA) to 220 MVA. "(This) is more than enough to cater to the additional substations," Zaporteza said. In improving the system, Negros Power is "replacing old wires with stronger, higher-capacity wires that can carry more electricity and support the growing power demand."
The latest project update showed 4.47 km out of the 6.5-km line upgrade have already been completed while 10 out of 17 support poles have already been erected. In preparation for the full completion and integration of these upgrades, Negros Power has scheduled a major power interruption on May 24 across three major substations, including Alijis Substation, Reclamation Substation, and Asdes-Gonzaga Substation.
"This activity is necessary to facilitate critical works, system preparations, and line transfer activities that will help ensure the safe and reliable operation of the upgraded transmission system moving forward," it added.
