2nd Wave of DSWD Food Packs Set for Quake-Hit Cebu

Cebu: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) plans to deliver 225,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs) to earthquake victims in Cebu by the weekend as part of its second wave of relief distribution. DSWD-7 information officer Leah Tagalo Quintana stated during a press briefing that they had already distributed 28,250 FFPs in the second wave, which began a day earlier.

According to Philippines News Agency, the distribution is expected to be completed by the weekend as instructed by Secretary Rex Gatchalian. The initiative follows the initial response to the September 30 magnitude 6.9 earthquake, during which DSWD-7 distributed 225,000 FFPs in the first wave. This initial effort reached nearly 700,000 individuals in severely affected areas, including Bantayan Island, Borbon, Medellin, and San Remigio.

Quintana also mentioned that a mobile communications center has been set up by DSWD-7 to ensure seamless coordination of relief efforts. In addition to food distribution, the agency is working on consolidating a list of earthquake victims who qualify for emergency cash assistance, with local governments aiding in the validation process. Furthermore, a tent city has been established in San Remigio to provide temporary shelter for internally displaced persons whose homes were destroyed by the earthquake.
