Manila: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is currently verifying reports that eight individuals have died due to the effects of tropical depressions Luis and Maymay, along with the southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat". The severe weather conditions have significantly affected approximately 223,000 families across the nation.

According to Philippines News Agency, OCD public information officer Diego Mariano reported that the fatalities include two individuals from Benguet, attributed to a landslide, three individuals from Rizal, where two deaths resulted from a rockslide and one from a falling tree, and three individuals from Batangas, caused by drowning, electrocution, and landslide. Additionally, nine injuries have been recorded, with seven in Benguet, one in Rizal, and another in Cavite. There is also a report of a missing person in Batangas.

The adverse weather has impacted an estimated 223,000 families, equating to around 752,000 individuals residing in various regions, including Region 1 (Ilocos Region), Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), Region 3 (Central Luzon), Region 5 (Bicol Region), Region 6 (Western Visayas), Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), Cordillera Administrative Region, Calabarzon (Region 4A), and Mimaropa (Region 4B). Currently, approximately 412 evacuation centers have been activated, providing shelter to 10,000 families or 34,400 persons.

Furthermore, the severe weather has resulted in significant damage to housing, with about 300 homes affected. Of these, 276 are classified as "partially damaged" and 24 as "totally damaged". Mariano indicated that agricultural damage is estimated at PHP3.53 million, and infrastructure damage is assessed at PHP1.12 billion, though specific details were not provided.
