MANILA: The annual Thanksgiving procession of the Black Nazarene, a significant event for devotees, is set to take place on New Year's Eve. This procession marks one of three occasions when the revered image is brought outside the confines of Quiapo Church in Manila.
According to Philippines News Agency, Alex Irasga, the technical adviser for the Jesus Nazareno Fiesta 2025 at Quiapo Church, confirmed that the "Walk of Thanksgiving" will occur within the vicinity of the church. This year-end event, held on December 31, serves as an opportunity for devotees to express gratitude for the blessings received throughout the year. Irasga explained in a telephone interview that the event traditionally begins at midnight on December 30, extending into the early hours of December 31.
In addition to the Thanksgiving procession on New Year's Eve, the image of the Black Nazarene is also brought out during Good Friday and the annual feast on January 9. Unlike the Traslacion, the extensive procession from Quirino Grandstand in Luneta Park to the minor basilica, the upcoming event will not involve devotees pulling ropes. Instead, the image will be transported on a truck, with the Hijos de Nazareno present to protect the image and ensure that people do not attempt to climb onto the truck.
Irasga advised devotees and the public to position themselves along the streets where the procession is expected to pass. The procession is estimated to last between two to three hours, allowing ample time for devotees to pay their respects.
