Antique: Representative Antonio Agapito Legarda is advocating for sustainable development in the province, opposing any mining activities which he argues would damage its natural resources. 'Antique is blessed with rich natural resources that I will fight until the end the proposed mineral reservation,' Legarda stated in an interview.

According to Philippines News Agency, Legarda is considering whether there is a need for legislative action to block the Mines and Geosciences Bureau's (MGB) proposed mineral reservation. This proposal encompasses 3,715 hectares across the towns of Patnongon, Sibalom, and San Remigio. Despite this, Legarda noted receiving reassurances from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), which oversees the MGB, that they would consider the people's sentiments.

The Antique Provincial Board voiced its opposition to the proposed mineral reservation in their regular session on February 10. Board Member Karmila Rose Dimamay emphasized that while the mineral reservation proposal does not authorize mining directly, it could lead to future activities that threaten sustainable development and community well-being.

The resolution clearly states Antique's commitment to preserving its natural heritage and opposes the mineral reservation declaration, advocating for the protection of the province's mountains and resources. Senator Loren Legarda also encouraged investments in green technology and sustainable industries in Antique, highlighting the province's reliance on agriculture, fisheries, and eco-tourism. She stressed the importance of protecting Antique's two protected areas under the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2018, which support biodiversity, water sources, and the region's economic foundations.
