Antique Prepares for Province-Wide Earthquake Drill

Antique: Antique will hold a province-wide simultaneous earthquake drill Thursday to beef up the preparedness of the province in times of disaster. Michael Tolentino, Antique Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer III, said the simultaneous earthquake drill will be participated in by government offices, schools, hospitals, and establishments in the province.

According to Philippines News Agency, the earthquake drill is intended to prepare the people in case there is an earthquake that would happen in the province. The drill complies with Memorandum Order No. 73, released by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, directing the conduct of wide-scale drills, with tsunami scenarios in coastal areas. It is on top of the quarterly National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill.

Tolentino further mentioned that the municipal DRRM office personnel will be assisting during the conduct of the drills. Personnel from the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose de Buenavista and other district hospitals will be joining the simulation with their selected patients. He emphasized the importance of the drill, stating that it could save lives if people know what to do. Tolentino also noted that employees of the Antique provincial government already had a dry run on Wednesday.
