Antique Prov’l Board Requests PNP for Breathalyzers

Antique: The Antique provincial board is requesting the Philippine National Police (PNP) to provide breathalyzers to their investigators of vehicular accidents for improved road safety enforcement.

According to Philippines News Agency, Board member Noel Alamis emphasized the importance of breathalyzers, highlighting their role in ensuring fairness in the application of traffic laws and reducing alcohol-related incidents. Alamis stated that with the use of breathalyzers, police would be able to determine if motorists involved in vehicular accidents are under the influence of alcohol. This request was formalized through a resolution passed during the board's regular session on Monday.

In a related interview, Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) Information Officer, Lt. Col. Willy Diel, confirmed that the police currently lack breathalyzers, despite acknowledging their necessity. Diel noted that driving under the influence of alcohol is considered a significant factor contributing to vehicular accidents. He reiterated that the availability of breathalyzers would be beneficial in identifying drivers under the influence, yet there has been no issuance of such devices to the APPO investigators.
