Antique’s Little Baguio Tourist Rest Area Set to Open Before Christmas

San remigio: The PHP10 million tourist rest area (TRA) at Antique's premier tourist destination in San Remigio is expected to begin operations just in time for Christmas. San Remigio Mayor Margarito Mission Jr. announced that the TRA, which is approximately 70 percent complete since its groundbreaking on November 21, 2023, is slated to be ready by December 2025.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Mission shared that only a few finishing touches are needed for the main structure, which is funded by the Department of Tourism-Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (DOT-TIEZA). "We expect that the TRA will be finished this December to provide better facilities for tourists who would come during Christmastime," he stated.

The TRA is being developed on a more than 2-hectare lot in Barangay Aningalan, which is known as the "Baguio of Panay" due to its cold climate and picturesque mountain scenery. The area attracts tourists from various parts of the country.

The tourist rest area will include clean restrooms, an information desk, and a souvenir shop. The shop will offer local food products like turmeric and ginger tea, camote chips, and non-food items such as bamboo baskets and gift items for sale to tourists. Additionally, Aningalan is renowned for its production of fresh vegetables, root crops, and fruits that appeal to visitors.
