Army Resolves Family Dispute and Recovers Firearms in South Cotabato

Polomolok: Military authorities in Polomolok, South Cotabato have successfully resolved a long-standing family feud and collected unlicensed firearms from both sides in the area.

According to Philippines News Agency, Lt. Col. Erwin Felongco, commander of the Army's 38th Infantry Battalion (38IB), reported that they facilitated a successful mediation between the Lacay and Alab families, both settlers in Barangay Magsaysay, Polomolok town. The peace covenant signing took place at the 38IB headquarters in Tupi, South Cotabato.

The exact cause of the misunderstanding remains unclear, but local officials confirmed that both parties had reached a reconciliation. Present at the event were Brig. Gen. Omar Orozco, commander of the 1st Mechanized Brigade, along with local officials from Polomolok and South Cotabato.

Brig. Gen. Omar Orozco expressed his support for the Army's peace initiative, emphasizing the importance of reconciliation and unity. As part of the resolution, two M16 rifles, one M79 grenade launcher, a .45-caliber pistol, and ammunition were turned over.

Lt. Col. Erwin Felongco highlighted that the peace mediation underscores the ongoing efforts of the 38th IB to promote reconciliation and lasting peace in South Cotabato through collaboration with local leaders, stakeholders, and communities. He reiterated the Army's commitment to fostering peace, encouraging unity, and supporting community progress.
