Nakhon ratchasima: The ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) and the Thailand Sports Organizing Committee (THASOC) will convene from August 29 to 31 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, to discuss preparations for the 13th ASEAN Para Games. The Coordination Committee (CoComm) meeting, the second after the initial session last March, will focus on safety, security, and venue readiness.
According to Philippines News Agency, the meeting will be held alongside the Chef de Mission (CDM) Seminar, where delegation heads from 11 ASEAN nations will be briefed on the latest developments for the Games set from January 20 to 26, 2026. Concerns over the safety and welfare of athletes, officials, and guests are expected to be raised, especially following recent border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia.
APSF President Maj. Gen. Osoth Bhavilai will lead discussions with THASOC on technical and operational matters, including facilities, logistics, classification, anti-doping, accreditation, broadcasting, marketing, and IT systems. Venue inspection will also be conducted on 18 facilities in Nakhon Ratchasima and the tenpin bowling in Bangkok.
APSF Secretary-General, Senior Colonel Dr. Wandee Tosuwan, emphasized the importance of the CDM Seminar and CoComm meeting in a press statement, stating that they are crucial to gauge Thailand's readiness and ensure the Games are conducted to the highest standards. The focus remains on athletes' safety, welfare, fair play, and seamless delivery of the Games.
Meanwhile, the first Technical Delegates (TD) meeting, originally scheduled before the CoComm session, has been postponed to September 15 to 17. The gathering is intended to align technical delegates, competition managers, and venue officials with updated requirements.
The 13th ASEAN Para Games will feature 19 sports, including para athletics, swimming, badminton, shooting, wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, powerlifting, boccia, blind football, cerebral palsy football, and cycling. With the theme 'ASEAN Moving Together' and 'Create Pride Together,' the Games return to Korat 18 years after it first hosted the biennial event.
