Baler: Governor Isidro Galban on Friday led a meeting of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) to conduct a pre-disaster risk assessment and scenario building in preparation for the possible impacts of Tropical Depression (TD) Ramil. Ramil may make landfall over Aurora, which is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as of the 5 p.m. bulletin, or Quezon on Sunday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the meeting, held at the Emergency Operations Center in Baler, was attended by DRRM officers from the province's eight municipalities and representatives from various national and local government agencies. Armando Avellaneda Jr., weather bureau chief in Baler, indicated that several parts of Aurora may experience heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides, depending on the typhoon's movement.
In response, the council ensured that every PDRRMC response cluster, including health, education, search and rescue, and infrastructure, is fully prepared to implement their contingency plans. "We cannot prevent natural disasters, but we can prepare for them and minimize their impact. Through the unified efforts of our DRRM officers and all sectors, Aurora will remain safe and resilient," Galban said.
Provincial DRRM Officer Amado Elson Egargue emphasized that real-time coordination and proper hazard information analysis are crucial tools in mitigating disaster risks. "Swift information sharing and prompt response can save lives. Every second counts in disaster operations," Egargue said.
