Bacolod Officials Back President Marcos’ Initiatives Following SONA

Bacolod: Officials of this highly urbanized city have expressed support for the various initiatives being pushed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to improve the lives of Filipinos during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA). Mayor Greg Gasataya, Vice Mayor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, and other city officials joined Lone District Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez in attending the President's address at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on Monday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Greg Gasataya stated that Bacolod City's government has already initiated several key projects mentioned by President Marcos, focusing on public spaces, healthcare, sports, digitization, peace and order, and disaster preparedness. Gasataya emphasized the city's commitment to these programs, aligning with the President's vision of unity, compassion, and shared responsibility.

Vice Mayor Puentevella highlighted the comprehensive nature of the President's SONA, which covers programs ranging from health to infrastructure projects like the Love Bus and flood control. Puentevella expressed hope that the President's initiatives would be effectively implemented during his remaining term in office.

Councilor Jude Thaddeus Sayson specifically welcomed the President's focus on auditing and reviewing flood control projects, noting its importance in light of recent weather disturbances that caused flooding in areas including Bacolod. Sayson expressed optimism about the President's strict approach to these projects.

Councilor Caesar Distrito noted the President's address was heartfelt and addressed common concerns of ordinary Filipinos, such as the 'zero-balance billing' in government hospitals and affordable rice pricing at PHP20 per kilo.

Earlier on Monday, Rep. Benitez reaffirmed his support for the Marcos administration as an independent lawmaker, expressing his full support for the President and commitment to encouraging broader backing for his leadership.
