Iloilo city: The Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC) is set to launch its inaugural baking summer camp for children, aiming to equip them with new skills as part of the city government's initiative to promote gastronomy education, life skills, and creativity. TIIC school administrator Mathilde Tre±as shared that the program, named 'Batang Kusinero,' was designed to keep children engaged and productive during their summer break.
According to Philippines News Agency, Tre±as explained that the camp will teach children how to prepare nutritious food they enjoy. The objective is to empower them to cook independently and potentially spark entrepreneurial interests. The program will cover essential kitchen safety, basic cooking and baking skills, dessert decorating, teamwork, plating, food presentation, and the preparation of simple Filipino and international dishes tailored for kids.
The camp has set a target of enrolling 100 children, aged 7 to 15, for its four-batch summer program beginning on May 4. Participants will receive a complimentary apron, kitchen hat, and selected ingredients. Upon completion, they will be awarded certificates and a recipe for the dishes they have learned to prepare.
Tre±as mentioned that the camp plans to utilize flour donated by the Philippine Foremost Milling Corp. She expressed optimism about the program's success, noting that if it proves successful, they aim to make it an annual summer event.
