Bicol: Churches under the three dioceses in Bicol will be conducting second collections during Masses on Sunday for those affected by Typhoon Opong. In separate circulars, the Dioceses of Legazpi, Sorsogon, and Masbate have sought the generosity of the faithful to support the calls for donations for typhoon victims.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Diocese of Legazpi announced through a social media post that the second collection for Sunday, September 28, 2025, including the anticipated Masses on Saturday, will be dedicated to aid the Diocese of Masbate, which has been severely affected by Typhoon Opong. The diocese emphasized that by contributing generously, parishioners are directly assisting those in Masbate who are dealing with loss, damage, and disruption caused by the storm. The diocese assured that the offerings will be remitted through diocesan channels to be sent as assistance as soon as possible.
The Diocese of Sorsogon has already begun implementing the second collection during Masses on Saturday evening, which will continue through Sunday's eucharistic celebrations. They are also accepting in-kind donations at various drop-off points, including the Vicarial Seats of Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral Parish, Sorsogon City, and several other parishes. Bishop Jose Alan Dialogo expressed his appreciation and support to those contributing to the cause.
Similarly, the Diocese of Daet will participate by conducting a second collection during all Masses on Sunday. Bishop Herman Abcede directed that the proceeds from this collection be sent to the Diocese of Masbate to aid in their recovery and rebuilding efforts. He also encouraged the faithful to pray for those affected by the typhoon, asking for strength and hope for the victims as they rebuild their lives.
