Benguet: Local disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) offices in five Benguet towns and two Mountain Province municipalities received fuel supply to sustain road-clearing and relief operations in the aftermath of recent typhoons.
According to Philippines News Agency, Bakun, Sablan, Tuba, Itogon, and La Trinidad in Benguet, along with Sabangan and Bauko in Mountain Province, were allotted part of 6,100 liters of gasoline donated by Aboitiz Renewables, a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power. The fuel assistance will be used to power heavy equipment clearing debris and reopening access roads.
Aboitiz Renewables' first vice president and general manager for hydro operations, Noreen Vicencio, emphasized in a press statement over the weekend that the fuel distribution will significantly aid the local DRRM offices in maintaining their operations. This support is vital for ongoing efforts to ensure the safe passage of goods, essential services, and relief assistance to affected families.
Sablan DRRM officer Darryl Padsico also highlighted the importance of prioritizing safety, particularly for those in high-risk areas. Governor Melchor Diclas had previously instructed DRRM offices, in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways, to consistently evaluate road conditions and potential hazards, especially after several landslides occurred during Super Typhoon Nando, which exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on September 23.
