Dubai: The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported over 10,000 government transactions delivered during the Serbisyo (Service) Caravan for Filipino workers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, marking the largest turnout so far in the program's international rollout.
According to Philippines News Agency, the DMW stated that 10,765 transactions were completed for over 4,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo-OFW Serbisyo Caravan held at the Dubai World Trade Center on Sunday.
DMW Undersecretary Jainal Rasul Jr. highlighted the significance of the turnout in Dubai, labeling it as the largest among all Serbisyo Caravans conducted in various countries, including Hong Kong, Japan, Qatar, and Riyadh. He remarked on the evident need for direct government services among OFWs.
The Serbisyo Caravan is an initiative under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to bring government services closer to the people, with a focus on OFWs, as part of the administration's One Country Team Approach. This whole-of-government strategy aims to support overseas Filipinos.
Services provided during the event included the issuance of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) E-cards, National IDs, civil registry documents such as birth, marriage, death certificates, and Certificates of No Marriage Record. Due to the high demand, OWWA and the Philippine Statistics Authority/Philippine Identification System extended their services at the Migrant Workers Office in Dubai until Tuesday.
Additional services offered encompassed business and financial literacy programs, franchising opportunities, psychosocial counseling, and legal assistance.
Philippine Ambassador Alfonso Ver expressed gratitude to the UAE for its inclusivity toward Filipino workers and reiterated the Philippine government's commitment to the welfare and protection of OFWs' rights. He emphasized the importance of providing government services to help them succeed and achieve their dreams.
The DMW announced plans for more caravans targeting Filipino communities in the UAE and other countries, in response to the growing demand for government services.
