BIR Poised to Implement Marcos’s Tax Reform Agenda

Manila: Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Charlito Mendoza announced on Thursday that the agency is prepared to implement President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s tax reform agenda. In his recent State of the Nation Address, President Marcos outlined the government's commitment to pursuing tax relief measures designed to foster growth, generate revenue, and promote equity, all aimed at achieving socio-economic sustainability.

According to Philippines News Agency, the proposed tax reforms include broadening income tax exemptions and relieving small businesses from the minimum corporate income tax. Commissioner Mendoza emphasized the BIR's readiness to implement these measures once Congress enacts them. He stated, "The BIR supports this direction and stands ready to faithfully and efficiently implement the measures that Congress may enact."

Mendoza highlighted the BIR's responsibility to ensure preparedness for these upcoming changes while maintaining ongoing initiatives to improve tax administration and taxpayer experience. He reassured that the BIR will continue to advance reforms within its jurisdiction, including sampling compliance, enhancing services, modernizing systems, and revising outdated processes and regulations.

Moreover, Mendoza committed to ongoing consultations with stakeholders to ensure the BIR's actions are aligned with taxpayers' needs. He expressed confidence that these efforts would facilitate efficient implementation of tax relief measures, promote voluntary compliance, and sustain revenue generation necessary for funding public services.
