BOC Intercepts PHP14-Million Worth of ‘Shabu’ Concealed in Rope Shipment

Pasay city: An inbound parcel containing more than 2,000 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP14 million was recently intercepted at an international cargo facility within the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Complex, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the BOC-NAIA stated that the shipment, declared as "Plastics and Ropes," was flagged on July 8 following derogatory information received from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). During a physical examination, authorities uncovered 2,102 grams of suspected shabu, concealed inside multiple spools of rope, with an estimated street value of PHP14,293,600.

The operation was executed through the coordinated efforts of several agencies including PDEA, NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, BOC - Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, Philippine National Police (PNP) Aviation Security Group, Airport Police Department, PNP Drug Enforcement Group, National Bureau of Investigation, and Bureau of Immigration.

BOC-NAIA emphasized their commitment to supporting Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno's mission to enhance border security and prevent the entry of illegal drugs and other prohibited goods into the country through intensified enforcement and inter-agency cooperation. The seized drugs were handed over to PDEA for laboratory examination and further investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing.
