Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) has completed its inspection of 455,188 bottles of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs, preparing them for distribution to persons living with HIV (PLHIV) starting next week. This shipment is part of an anticipated 1.2 million units of HIV commodities, as confirmed by a DOH news release.
According to Philippines News Agency, the shipment includes Lamivudine+Tenofovir+Dolutegravir (LTD) formulations. The DOH has verified that these ARVs are safe, effective, high-quality, and registered with the Food and Drug Administration, ensuring they are ready for immediate distribution. The remaining batches of the first tranche are expected in the coming weeks, with plans for a similar inspection process.
The second and third tranches of ARV drugs are scheduled to arrive between August and September. The DOH noted that ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have impacted the delivery timeline of these HIV commodities to the country. Despite these logistical challenges, the DOH assured the public that it is actively monitoring and managing the supply chain to ensure that treatment and care for PLHIV remain uninterrupted.
