Manila: The Bureau of Customs (BOC) is set to potentially earn PHP220 million through the auction of 13 luxury vehicles belonging to the controversial contractor couple Pacifico 'Curlee' Discaya II and Cezarah Rowena 'Sarah' Discaya. These vehicles are part of a larger collection of 30 cars owned by the Discayas.
According to Philippines News Agency, during a media viewing at the BOC grounds in South Harbor, Manila, Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno announced that a Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) was issued against these vehicles. This action followed the establishment of probable cause and confirmation of violations of Customs laws. Seven of the vehicles reportedly lacked both Import Entry and Certificate of Payment (COP), while the remaining six had Import Entry but either lacked a COP or possessed questionable documentation.
The BOC has taken custody of these vehicles as part of its ongoing effort to enforce customs laws and protect government revenues. Commissioner Nepomuceno stated that the Discaya family has been given 15 days to present the necessary documentation, failing which the vehicles will be forfeited to the government. The vehicles covered by the WSD include high-end models such as the Toyota Tundra, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and Bentley Bentayga, among others.
Nepomuceno also mentioned that the rest of the vehicles in BOC custody are undergoing transaction audits by the Post-Clearance Audit Group (PCAG). He emphasized the BOC's commitment to its responsibilities, stating, "Our job at the BOC never stops with just seizures. We want the public to know that we are serious about the responsibilities entrusted to us."
Additionally, the BOC has requested a meeting with the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to provide documents and share information related to a flood control issue.
