BSP Promotes Financial Literacy in Antique Through “Peso Talks” Initiative

Antique: The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is urging residents of Antique to utilize banks and other secured formal institutions for saving money as a precautionary measure for unforeseen circumstances.

According to Philippines News Agency, during the "Peso Talks" event held at the Old Antique Capitol, Bank Officer IV Buena Mae Rentura highlighted the importance of saving money to ensure financial security in emergencies. Rentura discussed the necessity of maintaining an emergency fund to address unexpected health issues or job loss.

In her address, Rentura underscored that savings could also support achieving personal objectives, such as funding higher education or purchasing a home. She cautioned against keeping money at home, where it might be forgotten or lost in a fire, emphasizing that bank deposits are secure, insured, and capable of earning interest.

The two-day forum was attended by various groups, including youth, women, entrepreneurs, and government employees. Throughout the event, different banks operating in the province showcased their products, focusing on digital payment options.

John Kenneth Dolor, president of the Antique Bankers Association, Inc. (ABAI) and head of the Metrobank branch, stated that developing savings habits and making wise spending decisions can help individuals avoid debt and enhance their quality of life.
