Tropical Depression Neneng Forms Inside PAR

Manila: The low-pressure area within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical depression and has been designated as Neneng. This development occurred on Tuesday afternoon, positioning Neneng 1,025 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon and moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour (kph), as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the tropical depression exhibits maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, with gustiness reaching up to 55 kph. Despite its development, no wind signals have been raised over any part of the country. However, the enhanced southwest monsoon, locally known as "habagat," is expected to cause strong to gale-force gusts across most regions.

Maritime conditions are projected to be rough, particularly across the seaboards of Zambales and Lubang Islands, the western seaboards of Pangasinan and Bataan, seaboards of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Kalayaan Islands, and the western seaboards of Babuyan Islands, Occidental Mindoro, Calamian Islands, northern Palawan, and Davao Oriental. PAGASA has advised mariners operating motorbancas and similarly sized vessels to exercise caution when navigating these waters.

In its forecast, PAGASA indicated that Neneng is expected to remain distant from any landmass and is unlikely to make landfall. The cyclone is anticipated to weaken into a remnant low by Thursday.
