Manila: Benguet State University (BSU) president Dr. Kenneth Laruan expressed hope that long-awaited campus buildings would be given budget allocations after the national government's focus shifted to other priority projects amid the ongoing flood control controversy.
According to Philippines News Agency, Laruan said the university recently submitted its infrastructure 'wish list' to the Department of Budget and Management. The list includes the completion of the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, and Arts and Humanities buildings, with a combined funding requirement of around PHP100 million.
'These projects were not included in the 2026 National Expenditure Program, but we requested funding for their completion and consideration,' he said in a media interview Saturday. The College of Medicine building is particularly urgent, Laruan added, as the university has already purchased equipment and is awaiting approval from the Commission on Higher Education to begin accepting students by school year 2026-2027.
Pending its completion, BSU plans to use classrooms at the College of Nursing to accommodate the first batch of 50 medical students. Laruan also highlighted the need for additional classrooms to ease congestion as enrollment continues to grow.
