Cagayan River Reaches Critical Level, Triggers Evacuation Concerns

Tuguegarao: The Cagayan River's water level continued to rise on Saturday, submerging more villages in floodwater due to inclement weather. As of 3 p.m., the water level at the Tuguegarao City Gauging Station at Buntun Bridge reached the critical level of 9 meters. Tuguegarao Mayor Maila Ting Que said forced evacuation may be implemented in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

According to Philippines News Agency, Que expressed concern for the farmers in her Facebook post, noting that despite the typhoon not passing through the area, they are still significantly affected due to the region being a catch basin. The situation is being monitored closely as Severe Tropical Storm Paolo moves towards Southern China.

Several major roads and bridges have been closed to vehicles, including the Capatan overflow bridge, Riverbank Bonifacio Street, Centro 01, Teresita Boulevard leading to the eco park in Centro 10, and the Aguinaldo Extension along Cagayan Museum.

Latest data from the City Social Welfare and Development Office indicate that approximately 66 families, totaling 256 individuals, have been preemptively evacuated from 35 low-lying villages, including Centro 10, Ugac Norte, San Gabriel, and Cataggaman Nuevo. Most evacuees are staying in village halls and schools designated as evacuation sites, while some have chosen to stay with relatives.
