Canlaon city: Residents of Canlaon City in Negros Oriental are accustomed to Mt. Kanlaon's volcanic activity and are prepared for the worst, knowing the response and management drills down to the barangay level, an official said.

According to Philippines News Agency, Seth Bariga, Canlaon City's alternate information officer, stated that life remains normal despite the latest ash emission from Mt. Kanlaon. City officials and emergency responders are maintaining vigilance over the volcano. Bariga highlighted that the local population is no longer unsettled by volcanic activity, unlike in the past, and they are well-prepared for any restive behavior of the volcano.

There were no evacuations following Tuesday's event at Mt. Kanlaon. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported a weak ash emission, with grayish plumes observed from the volcano's summit crater early in the morning.

While Alert Level 2 remained at Mt. Kanlaon, Bariga noted that the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), barangay officials, and other local government unit (LGU) personnel were closely monitoring the volcano's activities. Bariga mentioned that the biggest challenge for the LGU is responding to simultaneous disasters.

He referred to the recent heavy rainfall that caused flooding in some areas over the weekend, necessitating the deployment of CDRRMO personnel and emergency response volunteers. Although the city has not previously experienced simultaneous volcanic activity and rainfall flooding, Bariga expressed confidence in the cooperation among the LGU, local officials, and residents who are well-versed in necessary disaster preparations and response measures.
