Caraga: The Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 in Caraga is ramping up its efforts to ensure safety during the New Year festivities by conducting thorough inspections of firecracker display zones, retail centers, and authorized sellers. This initiative aims to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to prevent any incidents related to illegal and unsafe firecrackers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Maj. Jennifer Omiter, the information chief of PRO-13, emphasized that the inspections are designed to avert potential dangers, including injuries, fires, and accidents. The inspections are part of a broader strategy to safeguard residents and visitors during the celebratory period. Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV, the director of PRO-13, personally led a daylong inspection across the region, accompanied by the command group, regional staff, and local police chiefs.

On the same day, Magistrado also conducted inspections of the designated Police Assistance Desks (PADs) strategically positioned across the region. These desks are intended to offer rapid support to the public, bolster trust in law enforcement, and deter criminal activities during the festive season. Omiter highlighted that the PADs would also function as points for accessing directions and safety reminders.

In addition to inspecting firecracker vendors, Magistrado and his team visited public transport terminals and seaports. These visits were conducted to verify that appropriate protocols are in place to manage the expected increase in travelers, ensuring a safe and orderly movement of people returning home or visiting family for the holidays.
