CDO Multisectoral Groups Launch Free CPR Training Initiative

Cagayan de oro: Multisectoral groups have joined with government organizations in forming an initiative to train cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to residents here.

According to Philippines News Agency, Cardiologist Dr. James Cayetano, head of Bell-Kenz Foundation, announced that the "Sagip CPR" initiative supports Proclamation No. 511, which designates July 17 as National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Day. This initiative aims to provide basic hands-only CPR training to the public.

Dr. Cayetano emphasized the importance of the program by highlighting that data shows only two in 10 Filipinos are equipped with the knowledge to perform CPR. He noted that the Sagip CPR program is designed to be accessible for individuals of all ages and employs psychomotor skills, enabling children to physically practice the technique.

He further mentioned that students from Grades 5 to 12 possess the capability to learn this critical life-saving skill. The program receives support from several organizations, including the Philippine Heart Association, Northwestern Mindanao, PHINMA Cagayan de Oro College with its city scholars organization, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department.
