Cagayan de oro: Religious organizations in this city on Thursday called for a transparent and honest investigation of flood control infrastructure projects in the country. In a statement, Pastor Jeff Baconga of the Cagayan de Oro Evangelical Council (CEC) said they are "deeply grieved" by reports of public funds being misused in projects meant to protect communities from flooding, calling the issue not only a failure of governance but also a "moral and spiritual crisis."
According to Philippines News Agency, CEC is a coalition of evangelical churches in the city, voicing concern about alleged corruption in government infrastructure projects, especially those related to flood control. 'We affirm our solidarity with all sectors calling for reforms to end the culture of impunity,' Pastor Baconga emphasized.
Father Jeffrey Palasan of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente highlighted the urgency of flood control projects amid worsening climate threats. He appealed to his congregation and the nation to remain steadfast in demanding integrity, stating, 'When flood control fails, it's not just infrastructure that collapses-it's public trust and our communities' resilience.'
