China Expresses Gratitude to Philippine Coast Guard for Medical Evacuation in Basilan Strait

Manila: The Chinese Embassy in Manila conveyed its appreciation for the medical assistance provided by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to a Chinese national who suffered an electric shock while transiting the Basilan Strait.

According to Philippines News Agency, Embassy Deputy Spokesperson Guo Wei acknowledged the prompt action taken by the PCG in aiding the foreign national. In a social media post, Wei expressed heartfelt thanks for the PCG's quick response to the emergency involving a Chinese crew member.

The incident occurred when the Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) was alerted by a distress call from MV Min Hua 9. The vessel requested urgent medical evacuation for its 55-year-old male Chinese crew member who had been electrocuted.

Responding swiftly, the Coast Guard dispatched BRP Tubbataha along with a medical team to assist. The patient was successfully rescued on the day of the incident and transported to the nearest hospital in Zamboanga City for further medical treatment.
