China Secures Five Gold Medals in Asian Track Cycling Championships

Cavite: China bagged five gold medals in the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) Track Championships at the International Cycling Union (UCI) certified Tagaytay CT Velodrome in Cavite. The victories came in the men's and women's elite team sprint, men's and women's team pursuit, as well as the men's junior team pursuit.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Tagaytay CT Velodrome received its UCI Category A homologation, enabling it to host prestigious events such as world cups and world championships. This certification was officially signed by UCI Track and Indoor Cycling Manager Jessika Grand Bois just a day before the championship's opening ceremony. PhilCycling president Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino expressed enthusiasm over the velodrome's new status, stating its readiness to host international competitions.

While China dominated the event, other countries also showcased their prowess. Chinese-Taipei excelled in the men's junior team sprint, Korea claimed the top spot in the women's junior team sprint, and Kazakhstan emerged victorious in the women's junior team pursuit.

Team Philippines faced a challenging competition on home ground, marking an important learning experience for the athletes. PhilCycling track coach Virgilio Espiritu acknowledged the team's struggles but noted their improvement from training. The Filipino participants in the junior team sprint included Prince Andrei Pedragosa, Asher Job Albo, and Kaizel Jizmundo for the men's category, and Marlen Marasigan, Althea Mae Campana, and Angeline Elvira for the women's category. Matt Andrei Gonzalo, Archie Cardana, and Marcus Gabriel Ricalde competed in the men's elite team sprint.

A total of 600 athletes from 16 nations are competing in the tournament, which the Philippines is hosting for the first time in 31 years.
