Coast Guard Suspends Sea Travel in Surigao Norte Due to Typhoon Inday

Surigao: The Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte (CGSSDN) has temporarily suspended travel for all types of watercraft with a gross tonnage of 35 and below on Thursday morning. This decision was made in response to unfavorable weather conditions caused by Typhoon Inday, also known internationally as Bavi.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released a weather bulletin at 5 a.m. on Thursday. The bulletin stated that several areas in the country, particularly the northern and eastern seaboards, will experience rough sea conditions, with wave heights reaching up to 4.0 meters. CGSSDN announced that the temporary suspension of travel will remain in effect and will only be lifted upon further notice.

In addition, CGS Siargao issued a similar temporary suspension of sea travel on Thursday. This suspension applies to vessels of the same tonnage traveling to Bucas Grande Islands, Dinagat Islands, and other areas affected by the unfavorable weather conditions.

Earlier, CGS Dinagat Islands had ordered the suspension of travel on Wednesday afternoon, a measure that remains in effect as of the latest reports. CGSSDN units have been on heightened alert since Wednesday to prepare for the possible impacts of the typhoon.
